This 77 yr old codger is trying to figure out how to blog. This is my first attempt. A 77yr old baby step.
Gulp, here goes:
Obama Berlin speech
My impression
Gives short shrift to America,
Tells of his humble beginnings and improbable success
Gives no credit to America for giving him the opportunity for his success
Explains his father longed for opportunity not available in his home country and sought it as millions of others have in, …in America? In truth, yes, in America.
Although his father looked to America in his dream of freedom and opportunity Obama could only say “in the West”. Why could he not say in America?
Obama claimed the only reason he could stand in a free Berlin is because both nations came together to work in harmony. Nonsense. Berlin was freed and remained free thanks to America and Allied military might in WWII and the Cold War, thanks to America’s determination to provide aid and sustenance to the people of a nation who’s leadership and military just days before had been dedicated to killing us, with some success at that. To say that Berlin is free today because America and Germany came together in some agreement is an absurdity.
I’m sorry Barack, cars in Boston are not melting ice caps.
In closing Obama trashes America. As is his style, there are no specifics, just we have not lived up to our ideals. If Andrea Merkel, when campaigning for office, had come to America and proclaimed before thousands that Germany has failed to live up to it’s ideals, I would say she is not fit for office. Neither is Obama.
If you are going to trash your own country for its present policies, stay home and work for change. If you are going to trash your own country from a foreign pulpit for sins no longer being committed by your home country don’t expect me to want you to be my leader.
And Michelle, you may return to being ashamed of America if your man is not elected. But I for one will remain proud of America whether your man is elected or not.
